Monday, 1 Aug 11
So, I have been gone for a few weeks because I have been both sick and extremely busy, but I thought that I would catch you up on a few things.
So, Week 3 the topic was about environment. One team ended up going while the other teams did not compete for reasons that I do not know, nor did I seek to find out. So, one team got moved into the semi-finals by default.
That same week the performer was Maimouna Youssef ( www.mumufresh.com ) and when I tell you that her voice was amazing… that would be an understatement. I mean , just WOW! You can purchase her album on iTunes and trust me when I tell you that you will want to take that step and purchase it
The B. Discovered winner performed that night as well and her voice was very soulful. JUST AMAZING! I mean, I had a blast.
I was sick last week but I did reach out and congratulate the two teams that won. The topic was to write about B. Smith herself. I wish I could have seen what they all came up with.
Well, now that I have caught you up, that brings me to today.
Last week TJ and I got the topic of DC: Taxation w/o Representation. When I first received this topic I immediately thought “What am I supposed to write about this?” I sat, and I sat, and after an hour or two a jingle came to my head and I knew that this had to be a satirical kind of poem. I sat, and sat, and eventually walked away from it and when I came back I knocked the poem out in 40 minutes. I think it makes a strong point and it is something that I think sticks with my style of writing.
TJ and I worked for about 4 hours on Saturday and then 2 hours yesterday and we are all ready for our performance today. I feel more confident with this poem. I feel like I am ready to perform this week.
Two teams get to move on this week and again, I just want to be ONE of the two teams that get to move on. I am calm right now but as the hours tick I get more and more nervous. I just want it to be over so I can sit back and relax and enjoy the performances of the other two teams that will compete with us tonight. I don’t even know who I am competing against. Talk about scary. I can’t even size up my competition….lol.
Well, I will report back with good news later. Wow, that sounded cocky… but I really just pray that I can come back with good news. Pray with me please. Thanks.
